The Glass Eel filmed at BBC Maida Vale studios for BBC Introducing in the West.
The eel's colossal transatlantic migration from the Sargasso Sea to Europe's rivers is one of science's great mysteries. Now, with the loss of habitats and overfishing, it is critically endangered. I see the plight of this ancient creature as strangely metaphorical for the problems we ourselves face at the moment; our steady fragmentation, our gluttony, and our own questions of rights to land and belonging. In the end, we are all compelled by the same centrifuge that drives the eel.
Huge thanks to Sam and Rich from BBC Introducing, Andy Rogers for the recording, and Rob Potter for the film x
